Gauhati University

Gauhati University is the first University in North East India, established by an Act of the Assam Legislative Assembly (Assam Act. XVI of 1947), in the year 1948. The first court meeting of the University was held on 26th January 1948 at Sudmerson Hall of Cotton College, Guwahati and it shifted to its present campus at Jalukbari, 10km from Borjhar Airport and 10km from Guwahati Railway Station. Gauhati University is a full-fledged government university and fully recognized by UGC. The University is also awarded the grade of Four Star (****) by the apex council of NAAC.


IDOL (Institute of Distance and Open Learning) - The Institute of Distance and Open Learning, formerly known as Post Graduate Correspondence School (PGCS), was established in May 1998 with the objective to cover the vast number of students who, due to limited number of seats in Post Graduate Classes or for other reasons cannot enroll themselves in the conventional system of the University. The IDOL also strives to provide an opportunity to those who missed the opportunity for higher education and for those who wish to pursue higher education through distance mode.

DOEACC Society

DOEACC Society is an autonomous body of Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Govt. of India. The Society is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. DOEACC Society is the only professional examination body in India, which accredits institutes/organisations for conducting particular courses, specializing in the non-formal sector of IT education & Training. O/A/B/C Level courses conducted by the institutes in the non-formal sector have established a brand name in the field of IT in India and abroad. The examination for these courses is conducted by the DOEACC Society under the guidance of the Examination Board.

The Society is managed and administered by the Governing Council, which consists of eminent academicians and professionals from IT industry.

Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University

Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University is established under the provision of the Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University, Act’ 05 enacted by the Govt. of Assam & published in the Assam Gazette (extraordinary) dt 29/9/05.Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University

The University has been recognised and academic programmes approved by the Distance Education Council (DEC), Govt. of India vide letter no. DEC/Misei/07/5957 dated 03-10-07.

The University has been vested with the authority to prepare its own curriculum, system of examination and to admit, examine and confer degrees, diplomas and certificates to the learners registered under it up to degree and post-degree level courses.

The jurisdiction of the University covers the whole of the State of Assam and beyond. The motto of the University is ‘Education Beyond Barriers’ of age, academic background and geographical boundaries.
